Positive patient identification using 2D barcoded wristbands and handheld computers (PDAs)
Olympus has developed the AutoPPI positive patient identification system for improved patient safety.AutoPPI uses identification technology such as 2D barcodes (and RFID where appropriate) to encode specific details of the patient into eye-readable and machine-readable formats in compliance with the NPSA Safer Practice Notice and contains the following key identifiers
• NHS/Hospital ID number
• Last name
• First name
• Date of birth
Importantly the patient can be identified electronically at all stages of the patient journey by scanning the 2D barcode using portable handheld computers (PDAs).
